Fairfax, VA (July 22, 2022) --- Award-winning singer and songwriter Bertie Higgins has partnered with Time Life to bring “Pirates and Poets” to digital streaming services for the first time since it was released in 1983. The album features 12 of his self-described “Trop Rock” love songs, including “Leah” recorded with Roy Orbison. Higgins and Time Life will also release four digital compilation albums today, giving fans more than 60 songs to discover and rediscover: “Forever Casablanca,” “Gold Treasures,” “Let’s Sail Away to Key Largo” and “Rock the Docks.”

“My fans are actually the ones who pointed out that ‘Pirates and Poets’ wasn’t available on any of the streaming services and my son noticed that post on social media,” Higgins explains. “Until today, the only way you could listen to the album was if you owned the LP or cassette or CD.” Higgins wrote most of the songs on “Pirates and Poets,” which also includes one of his trademark odes to “Casablanca,” “As Time Goes By,” and Roy Orbison’s “Leah,” who joined Bertie on the track. “I remember we faced off mike to mike within three feet of each other in the studio. The note that Roy hit at the end of the song made my hair stand on end. It turned out to be more of a ballad, nothing like his original recording.”

“And the compilation albums are configured in a way so that people get to hear songs they probably haven’t heard before unless they bought all 27 of my albums,” he continues. “Now, they get to discover a whole bunch of music I’ve done that I think they’ll really like.”

The compilations include:

“Gold Treasures”: “These are songs that meant a lot to me, some that I just fell in love with over a long period of time and knew I wanted to record them.”

“Let’s Sail Away to Key Largo”: “What’s greater than romance in the tropics? I’m a saltwater boy born and raised on the coast of Florida, so I write a lot of tropical oriented songs and that’s the feeling this album captures. All of the songs have a tropical theme except for “When You Fall in Love,” which was actually inspired by (mentor and longtime friend) Burt Reynolds.”

“Rock the Docks”: “I’m basically known as a balladeer but there are some rock songs I really like, so I did my own versions of them like Dire Straits’ ‘Money for Nothing.’ The songs in this collection are upbeat and a lot of fun.”

“Forever Casablanca”: “I’ve got a lot of great fans in Asia and the Pacific Rim and I just love touring there. This album was originally created and released for those fans and includes the songs they ask for the most during my concerts.”

Bertie Higgins has released 27 albums throughout his career and is known for his breezy, romantic songs wrapped in tropical and classic cinematic themes. He hit number one on the adult contemporary chart with his signature song, “Key Largo,” in 1982 and has remained immensely popular throughout the world ever since. Higgins has been inducted into the Florida Artist Hall of Fame (alongside Ernest Hemingway and Tennessee Williams), has received the Mozart Music Award, the Beethoven Award, an International Acoustic Award and an honorary PhD from Hanover University in Germany. In 2017, he was knighted and is a Knight Grand Cross of the Imperial Order of Culture and Peace. His songs have been featured in film and television, including Kristen Wiig’s “Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar” and Matthew McConaughey’s “Beach Bum.”
